Premium Fashion E-commerce Design

A HIGH-QUALITY PRODUCT, A MISCONCEPTION

Leather Kloset operates a New York storefront and sells online — jackets, coats, custom pieces made from European leather and Asian fur, all handmade to order. The brand looked generic and didn’t communicate premium quality, making it difficult to distinguish from no-name competitors on marketplaces. That’s why we rebuilt the brand identity and eCommerce platform to align the visual presence with the actual product quality.

THE SOLUTION

We balanced two audiences. The existing customer base is 55+, buyers who view quality leather as a status marker and have the budget to match. The brand wanted to expand to 25-to 30-year-olds without losing its core. We balanced conservative old-money aesthetics together with contemporary elements through research and mood boards that spanned both directions. The final identity merged them: classic foundation with modern contrast.

IDENTITY: EMERALD, NOT BROWN

Most leather brands default to blue, brown, or black. We chose emerald green — premium, distinctive, uncommon in the category. The logo stays wordmark-based with no separate symbol, but L and K combine into a graphic form that reads as both letters and mark. Simple system, strong recognition. Packaging followed: branded bags, wrapping paper, cohesive touchpoints. Clear departure from where they started.

CONTENT AS BRAND STRATEGY

Product photography was amateur and cheapened perception regardless of actual quality. We built a photography style guide focused on people, not just products, using AI tools to augment existing images with new backgrounds, isolated items, and different perspectives. The goal was to show the product in context, on real people, in settings that communicate luxury without stating it directly.

THE PROCESS

Shopify Plus build with custom design from scratch. User flow, navigation, and filters designed for intuitive experience, especially for older users. Alongside development, marketing partners launched paid campaigns across Google Ads, Meta, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok to test traction. Early momentum shows the refresh is working.

SHOPIFY PLUS, BUILT FOR CONVERSION

User flow, structure, and animations are consistent with the brand language established in the identity phase. Navigation and filters are comprehensive but intuitive, especially for older users. Standard features are present — checkout, cart, wishlist, discounts, account management — but the focus is on making the experience feel as premium as the product, not on technical novelty.

WHAT CHANGED?

Leather Kloset moved from marketplace seller to New York luxury brand. The identity is sharper, the site is functional and polished, and positioning matches product quality. The business operates the same way — handmade, European materials, decades of experience — but the brand now reflects that reality instead of hiding it.

Results:

New brand identity with clear premium positioning. Modern, competitive eCommerce platform. Improved visual perception and user experience. Foundation set for growth in both existing and younger segments.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can a heritage fashion brand attract younger customers without alienating its existing audience?

The interface and identity need to modernize without removing the signals that established customers already trust. Leather Kloset’s core audience includes buyers aged 55 and older who associate premium leather and fur with durability, status, and traditional craftsmanship. The company also wanted to appeal to customers in their twenties and thirties who respond more strongly to fashion-led imagery, distinctive branding, mobile shopping, and contemporary digital experiences.

We combined a classic typographic foundation with emerald green, editorial compositions, modern spacing, responsive layouts, and stronger lifestyle photography. At the UX level, we kept navigation, product filters, size selection, product information, and checkout actions clear and predictable. Decorative elements never competed with essential shopping information.

This balance allowed the brand to become more contemporary while remaining understandable and credible to customers who prefer familiar, straightforward eCommerce experiences.

  • What should a Shopify Plus website for a premium leather or outerwear brand include?

A premium outerwear store needs more than attractive campaign images. Customers must be able to compare materials, styles, colors, sizes, prices, availability, and customization options without searching through inconsistent product descriptions.

For Leather Kloset, the eCommerce experience included structured categories, catalog filtering, search, sorting, wishlists, customer accounts, discounts, cart and checkout functionality, reviews, related-product recommendations, size selection, shipping information, exchange policies, and direct access to custom-order support. Product pages were designed to communicate both the visual appeal and practical details of each garment.

The website also separates discovery content from transactional content. Editorial banners, collections, and brand storytelling build interest, while product grids, filters, pricing, color swatches, and calls to action support purchasing decisions. This structure is particularly valuable for brands selling high-priced garments that require more consideration than standard fashion purchases.

  • How do you improve product discovery for a large fashion catalog without making the website difficult to use?

Product discovery should reflect the way customers actually shop. For Leather Kloset, customers may begin with a garment type, material, gender category, size, color, price range, or availability status. The catalog therefore supports multiple entry points instead of forcing every visitor through the same path.

We designed filters for product type, material, size, color, price, and stock availability, along with clear applied-filter states and result counts. Categories such as leather jackets, fur jackets, denim, shearling, and cashmere remain visible, while promotional and editorial content is integrated into the catalog without disrupting browsing.

The interface was also designed with Leather Kloset’s older audience in mind. Controls are clearly labeled, selections remain visible, and users can understand how many products match their criteria. On mobile, the same functionality is reorganized for a smaller screen rather than reduced to a simplified catalog with fewer options.

  • Can existing fashion product photography be upgraded without replacing the entire content library?

Yes, provided the original images contain enough usable product detail. Leather Kloset had strong products but inconsistent photography that reduced the perceived value of the garments. We created a photography direction that defined backgrounds, framing, model presentation, product isolation, texture visibility, and the balance between catalog and lifestyle imagery.

AI-assisted tools were used to expand selected assets with new backgrounds, isolated product views, and alternative compositions. The purpose was to create a consistent visual system around the existing catalog, not to generate unrealistic products or alter important garment details.

For premium fashion brands, AI-assisted image production needs clear art direction and quality control. Materials, silhouettes, closures, colors, and proportions must remain accurate. Used carefully, this approach can reduce the amount of new photography required while improving consistency across product pages, collection banners, campaigns, and social media content.

  • How long does a complete fashion rebrand and Shopify Plus redesign take?

The Leather Kloset project took 3 months. During that period, we developed the positioning, visual direction, logo system, brand colors, packaging concepts, photography guidelines, website structure, user flows, responsive UX/UI design, and Shopify Plus storefront.

A similar timeline depends on the size and condition of the product catalog, the number of templates required, the availability of product information, the quality of existing photography, the complexity of filtering and customization, and the speed of stakeholder approvals. A company with hundreds of poorly structured products will require more preparation than a brand with a clean catalog and approved content.

Running branding and website work as one coordinated process can reduce inconsistencies and repeated revisions. The identity establishes the visual and strategic rules, while the eCommerce design applies them directly to customer journeys and conversion points.
