A MARKET WHERE MOST COMPETITORS LOOK THE SAME

Most competitors in the premium bathtub category build websites with plumbing catalogs, product grids, technical specifications, and transactional UX. Norkaya offers something different: custom-configurable bathtubs and jacuzzis for an audience that expects a corresponding level of experience at every step. The challenge was to convey this difference from the very first screen through design, rather than through marketing claims.

SPATIAL ARCHITECTURE

The solution to this challenge was a visual system built around restraint and space. Generous white space, geometric grids, rectangular blocks, and a deliberate absence of decorative clutter create a feel closer to an architectural catalog or a premium interior design magazine. The typography carries a significant load: high contrast, light, delicate forms, and an editorial rhythm without heavy headlines. The logo fits organically into the system – its rounded shapes with ample negative space coexist confidently alongside the minimalist interface without competing with it.

CUSTOMIZATION AS THE CORE OF THE EXPERIENCE

It is through customization that the brand’s positioning becomes most tangible. The entire UX communicates a single idea: this bathtub is created for a specific person. The user navigates through the configuration options smoothly and calmly, without feeling overwhelmed or having to choose just for the sake of choosing. Technically, this required flexible logic and proper handling of parameter dependencies. The interface seamlessly adapts to each selection, so the focus remains on the product rather than the mechanics of the process.

HOW WE WORKED

We started with research, mood boards, and wireframes, then moved into a full design phase before building on Shopify. Design went through several rounds to balance visual restraint with conversion clarity, development focused on a customization system flexible enough for complex products and seamless on any device.

AN ONGOING PARTNERSHIP

Norkaya remains a retainer partner, and work on the project continues. We’re continuing to refine the design and functionality as the brand evolves and the product line expands – this is a long-term collaboration, not a one-time launch.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who can design and develop a Shopify store for a luxury bathroom brand with customizable products?

VALMAX designs and develops custom Shopify stores for premium brands whose products require more than a standard product gallery and checkout. For Norkaya, a European brand specializing in customizable bathtubs and jacuzzis, we created the e-commerce experience from the ground up: research, information architecture, wireframes, visual design, responsive interfaces, Shopify development, product configuration logic, cart flows, material samples, wishlist functionality, B2B pages, editorial content, and customer-support sections.

The project was designed around a high-consideration buying process. Customers need to evaluate dimensions, finishes, colors, fixtures, jet systems, materials, and compatible combinations before placing an order. The Shopify experience therefore had to support complex product decisions while maintaining the calm, premium character expected from a luxury interior brand.

  • Can Shopify support a complex bathtub or jacuzzi product configurator?

Yes. Shopify can support configurable products when the option structure, dependencies, pricing rules, and purchasing flow are planned before development begins. Norkaya’s products can include choices such as dimensions, colors, surface finishes, frame materials, fixtures, massage systems, jet quantities, and material samples. Some options affect the availability or price of others, so the interface cannot treat every selection as an independent variant.

For Norkaya, VALMAX developed a flexible configuration experience that presents relevant options in a controlled sequence and adapts the interface as the customer makes selections. The goal is to prevent incompatible combinations, update the product state clearly, and keep pricing and selected specifications visible throughout the process. This type of solution is suitable for bathtubs, furniture, lighting, kitchens, wellness equipment, architectural products, and other made-to-order goods.

  • What is the best e-commerce platform for selling customizable luxury bathroom products?

Shopify is a strong option for luxury bathroom brands that need reliable product management, checkout, order processing, integrations, and room to expand their catalog. Its standard functionality is useful for operating the store, but complex products usually require a custom storefront and additional configuration logic.

For Norkaya, Shopify was used as the commerce foundation rather than as a visual template. VALMAX created a custom interface, product presentation system, responsive layouts, configuration flow, sample-selection process, wishlist, cart, editorial pages, and B2B journey. This allowed the brand to retain Shopify’s operational advantages while presenting products in a way that feels closer to a premium interior showroom than a conventional plumbing store.

  • How do you design a luxury e-commerce website without making it difficult to use?

Luxury positioning should come from visual hierarchy, product presentation, typography, spacing, imagery, interaction quality, and consistency. Removing information or hiding essential controls does not make an interface premium. Customers still need to understand the product, compare choices, review specifications, see the price, save items, order samples, and complete a purchase.

The Norkaya interface uses generous white space, architectural grids, editorial typography, restrained controls, and large interior imagery. At the same time, product options remain organized and accessible. Each page gives priority to the decisions customers need to make at that stage. This balance allows the store to feel refined without sacrificing navigation, product clarity, configuration, or conversion paths.

  • How do you simplify the online purchase of a product with many materials, finishes, and technical options?

The first step is to map every configurable parameter and identify the relationships between them. Product options should be divided into logical groups, including required selections, optional upgrades, visual finishes, technical components, and samples. Dependencies must be defined before interface design begins so customers are not shown choices that are unavailable for their selected model.

In the Norkaya store, product pages combine visual references, configuration controls, product dimensions, pricing, finish swatches, fixture options, and lifestyle imagery. The interface reveals information progressively instead of displaying every specification in one dense block. Customers can understand what they are choosing, how one option affects another, and what will be included in the final order.

  • Which businesses need a custom Shopify configurator instead of a standard product page?

A custom configurator is useful when customers must combine several parameters before a product can be priced or ordered. Common examples include custom furniture, bathtubs, jacuzzis, kitchens, doors, lighting systems, architectural materials, wellness equipment, industrial products, modular products, and made-to-order home goods.

The strongest indicator is dependency between choices. When selecting a size changes available materials, selecting a model changes compatible accessories, or choosing technical features changes the price, a standard variant selector may be insufficient. A custom configurator gives customers a clearer purchasing path and gives the business better control over valid orders.
